though at least I've learned that I need to devote attention
to letterboxing prep well -before- the end of the school year!

When you are scanning, pay attention to the resolution of the scan. If
you are scanning for use on the www, you needn't make it any better than
100 dpi. Most monitors display below that level. JPEG's are normally
compressed and have the added bonus of adjustable resolution. I am
using Photoshop & all of this is inherently adjustable and tunable...
not sure about the program you are using.

Also, I was about to respond to your comment re:scanner-to-the-internet
problems, with a blithe" Oh, just scan, save as a gif file, and attach

I've spent most of the afternoon trying to do just that.
We recently purchased a Mustek 1200 CU color scanner to replace our
cheapie mono one, bundled with "Photo-Express" imaging software. Well,
there is no direct way to save as a GIF file, and TIFF's & JPEG's are
huge. I was able to do it (I think) by importing into yet another photo
program, and save as a GIF. Somehow, this all seems cumbersome and
inefficient - if antybody has any suggestions, they would be
appreciated!!!

I don't know what the problem would be (natch!), but I did try
saving the page as an "htm" rather than "html" ~ I don't know what
the difference is, but I read somewhere that there is one!

I have that software, too, that came with the scanner... though I have not
yet used it... did you try that .png file format? says it's supposed to be
for web displaying and an alternative to .gif? Otherwise, the stray bits
of info rattling around in my head say that if you need .gif, you'll have
to save it first as a .tif and then do the cumbersome switcheroo...
If anyone here uses Picture Publisher or Adobe PhotoDeluxe,
I have a few questions for you if you're in the mood to answer!
